Four years ago yesterday, Kiera was born. Seven years ago tomorrow, Molly was born. September is always an interesting and exceedingly busy month around here. For cakes, I mix up a single batch of a cake that's normally baked in a 13x9 pan, and bake it in a small square pan instead -- half on the 18th, half on the 20th. They get a shared party, and if at some point they stop being willing to do that, they're going to have to start alternating years, I think, because September is already enough work. (Ed points out that back when we were kids, birthday parties were not an every-year sort of deal, and this is true. I'm not sure when that changed, but whatever, I'd feel like a complete grinch if I said, "no party." At some point I almost succeeded in talking them into a Halloween party instead, but that didn't stick.)
