On Tuesday, I was trying to get to highway 62, missed the entrance ramp, and wound up taking a short accidental tour of this little street tucked in between the highway, the Air Force Reserve Base, and the Minneapolis airport. I drove around a block to turn around, and as I passed a house, I saw a hand-lettered sign that said FREE MAPS TO AIRPORT. I didn't need a map to the airport, but I was intrigued enough by this random act of kindness to strangers that I stopped and picked up a map. Then I came home and posted an LJ entry about it to [livejournal.com profile] twin_cities. I included a link to the guy's DJ business, which he advertises in a postcard stapled to the map.

Another blogger linked to my post. Then someone linked to it from mnspeak.com. Then someone passed it along to a reporter at WCCO and now you can go to the WCCO website and watch the video where they interview the guy with the maps. (Search for "airport" if you don't see it under recent stories.)

The WCCO reporter left a comment on my blog entry, but I didn't check my e-mail in the morning so I didn't see it. He ended up calling me at 10 a.m. to ask for directions. I scanned in the map and e-mailed it to him.

I find this whole thing hilarious. I have seen on many occasions the way information can travel on the Internet, but I've never been the originator of the information before.
