Recent Linguistic Developments
Jul. 5th, 2005 12:39 amKiera's verbal skills continue to develop. I normally wrap Kiera up in two blankets while putting her to bed; tonight I laid out only one, and she picked up the corner, looked underneath, then gave me a perplexed look and said "where banket go?" She asks "where" a fair amount now: "Where Molly go? Where Daddy go? Where bike helmet go?"
Kiera will bring me books and say "read dis." When I take the book, she will turn her back on me and kind of jump up on her toes saying "lap, lap, lap."
She likes for us to turn lights on. And will say so, except that she gets it wrong and will say "yite off, yite off" instead of "yite on." When she's ready for me to brush her teeth at bedtime she'll tug on my hand and say "toof brushing."
Molly, meanwhile, is learning how to be a smart-ass. On Saturday, Kiera had scattered some cat food through the kitchen; I was walking around in bare feet and was finding it annoying, so I got a broom and swept it up. Ed complained that I'd just cleaned it up, rather than trying to make Kiera clean up her own mess. I said that it was sticking to my feet and annoying me. Molly spoke up at that point and said, "Mama, have you seen Daddy's slippers?" It took me a few minutes (and commentary from Ed) to realize that this was not actually a question but a smart-alec suggestion.

Date: 2005-07-07 01:09 pm (UTC)Melissa and Molly are two of a kind. I asked Melissa (age 5) yesterday where Amber had run off to, and she looked at me and said "Go find her."
Ah, the joy of children!
