Jul. 7th, 2005 11:16 amI spent a year in London when I was 13, and I'm still in touch with my best friend from that year, Melanie. She lives in London and works at the Times; I'm not actually sure where their headquarters is, but the chances that she travels through King's Cross on a daily basis are about 90%.
I have her phone number somewhere but I can't find it. I would not expect to be able to get through right now anyway. I'm not going to call any of the hotlines, as while she's a good friend and I'm very worried, my desire to know she's okay does not stack up to the urgency of someone who wants to confirm the safety of a close family member. I have sent her e-mail (I'm not 100% sure the address is up to date, but it's what I've got). My parents are on the road right now but I have e-mailed them to ask for her phone number; I'm sure they've got it. (They actually see her much more often than I do, since they go to London a couple times a year, and I haven't been there since 1993.)
I am fretting, not panicking, but ugh. I will post again once I confirm that she's okay.
