We've been out of town; I had Internet access on the road, but things were busy and I didn't have time to post.

It was a difficult trip. Ed's mother died last fall; at her request, the memorial service was delayed until spring, and that's what we went out there for. A couple of weeks before we left, Kiera decided that she wanted to wear underwear like a big girl (and was very persistent and stubborn about it). She got pretty good at peeing in the potty, but pooping was more challenging, and this resulted in a cascade of issues that came to a head just before we left town. The entire time we were out there, every time we would sit down to eat a meal, she would jump up five minutes later, wailing and saying she had to go potty. One of us would grab the potty bag (because she can't sit on a regular toilet seat without feeling like she's falling in, we used an insert seat), walk her to the bathroom, and set her on the potty. Where she would sit for no more than five seconds, then hop off, saying that she'd changed her mind, she didn't want to go potty after all. Back to the table, sit down for two or three minutes, and once again she'd start wailing that she had to go potty. We had already put her back in diapers, but she didn't WANT to poop in her diaper, she WANTED to poop on the potty. Except she didn't. Except she did. Except she didn't.

Ed and I took turns taking her to the bathroom, and in one small restaurant sent Molly with her a couple of times. Still, you can imagine how much fun this was to deal with while flying, during the four hours we were stuck in Midway Airport, on the road in New England, at the restaurants we ate in, etc., etc., etc.

The girls also had to share a bed at the hotel. We figured this wouldn't be a problem, as they occasionally both crawl into Kiera's bed to sleep when they're at home. We figured wrong.

One funny story, though. Friday evening, Molly wanted sushi for dinner. Unfortunately, it had been a very cold, rainy day, and the last thing Ed and I felt like was a cold meal like raw fish. Molly suggested we add wasabi -- that would heat it right up. When we didn't go for that argument, she suggested that we order something else from the restaurant. Then she tried suggesting that we all get takeout, and she could get takeout sushi.

After all those well-crafted arguments, I felt pretty bad for not getting her sushi, but it was a really cold, nasty day, and I really wanted a warm dinner. We had sushi last night instead, at a sushi place across the street from our hotel.

I definitely feel your potty-training pain. Meg pulls that same stunt. (Most recently, this was in the port-a-lets at the local festival... EW.) Sounds like Kiera's really into it and making progress, though! (Although her timing could be better.)

Oh, how frustrating!

I generally find traveling with the boys to be an unmitigated disaster.
