Looking for a book
May. 12th, 2006 12:35 amI'm going to be on a panel at Wiscon about culture clash that mentions "Hellspark" by Janet Kagan as a book we might discuss on the panel. I've never read it, and the Minneapolis library doesn't have it. Does anyone local have a copy I could borrow?
I was fascinated to see that Janet Kagan is also the author of Uhura's Song, one of a handful of Star Trek tie-in novels that I still remember very fondly (I read them voraciously for a while in high school) and vividly enough that I could probably tell you the entire plot, complete with character names.

I'm so glad you mentioned Kagan, though, because I'd completely forgotten a wonderful novel of hers, Mirabile, that I read many years ago. Genetic engineering with a generous dash of humor. Thanks for reminding me of a great read long lost in my middle-aged memory banks!

Your library should be spanked for not having a copy. Meisha Merlin put out a new edition a few years back, if you can't find it elsewhere.
