So at dinner last night...
Jun. 15th, 2006 11:38 pmSo at dinner last night, we had a salad that included cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. I looked over at Molly at one point to discover that she was busily tucking her cherry tomatoes into the middle of her cucumbers. "Molly, don't play with your food," I said.
Ed came back out (we were eating outside) just as one of Molly's tomatoes went shooting out of the cucumber and rolled across the patio. "Molly," I said, exasperated, "This is why I tell you not to play with your food."
Molly gave me an offended look. "I was just putting tutus on the cherry tomatoes," she said.
I lost it and started giggling hysterically. I know, when it comes to undermining your own disciplinary tactics, that laughing at your kid's misbehavior is really not exactly helpful, but sometimes I just can't help it.

Date: 2006-06-16 11:01 am (UTC)Last week I was sternly telling Katherine "not to speak to me in that tone of voice," and she put on a Shirley Temple tone (and pout) and said, "Poor Mama! What you gonna do?" (It doesn't sound as funny in retelling as it was when it happened, but you get the idea.) I knew I'd lose all credibility, but I totally cracked up.

Date: 2006-06-16 02:33 pm (UTC)Cucumbers are probably their favorite vegetable. When we make a salad, we put in two, because we want to get some cucumber, too.

Date: 2006-06-28 04:25 pm (UTC)I laugh at DD's misbehaviour way more often than I should. The thing is, she sometimes is incredibly funny. What else can you do?
(I, too, am impressed that your kids eat cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. Mine lurves many types of fruit, but her vegetable repertoire is this: shredded carrots in carrot loaf; shredded zucchini in zucchini loaf; and tomato sauce on spaghetti--and only if I have Braun Multipractic-ed it so there is no chunkage. And, no, it's not because I failed to expose her to a wide variety of foods as a baby. She's the only person I've ever met who's a pickier eater than her father.)
