I was trying to remember the name of a particular pod-like vegetable, and my brain temporarily misplaced the word.

So I googled for "vegetable with snot."

Dingdingdingding! Very first hit. Okra is the word that was on the tip of my tongue (but fortunately, not on my plate.) As a bonus, on the page where it appears, Bush is being compared to the stuff.

I really don't know how I got by for 25 years of my life without Google.

What's wrong with slime? I think it is an insult to okra to link it to Bush.

The one way that okra is good to eat is in gumbo. But then, it is surrounded by shrimp, spicy sausage, and oysters, and rice. I have no idea why the okra is there other than tradition.

Okras on my list of vegetables to avoid too, along with peas and lima beans.

What an awful choice. :) Maybe they'd both be improved by deep frying and serving on a stick.

My mom tried to get me to try okra once. She insists that it's a sterling member of the vegetable community, much maligned by closed-minded people like me.

She has also spent the better part of my life trying to convince me that I would really love eggplant if I would just give it a chance. I've given it lots of chances, and for some reason, every single time, it makes me gag. (I like it fine in babaganouzh, but babaganouzh doesn't taste like eggplant, it tastes like garlic and other lovely things.)

Google is absolutely a necessary tool of life.

Could have called me! I knew what vegetable you meant the minute you said "snot" but I wouldn't have been able to do the Bush connection. I just think of Papa Bush and Broccolli since he hated it so much that Davanni's started serving broccolli pizza for a time in his (dis)honor.

I could do okra every night for a little while - gumbo, sauteed with tomatoes, spiced to high heaven. Lima beans would have been brutal though!!!

So I finally acquired & read book 3 (ah, transatlantic flights and long car trips...). The character with my name turns out to be important! Woot!

(Um, you see why I don't use my real name on the internet. It's a bit identifying.)
