Kiera's birthday was Monday. Molly's birthday was Wednesday. Their party was today. So I basically spent this whole week baking cake, frosting cake, cleaning up from baking or frosting cake (it's much messier when the two kids help, and of course getting to help bake their birthday cakes is part of the fun of having them), cleaning the house for the party, shopping for party supplies, and planning the party.

Today everything was pretty much ready. Molly bounced out of bed at 7 a.m. and asked what time it was. She asked again 15 minutes later. And again 15 minutes after that. And so on.

The party was fun and everyone seemed to have a good time. My parents and sister came to help out, so we had about one adult for every two kids, which was a good ratio, particularly when they were bashing the pinata (I know I need a ~ over the n, but I'm not sure how to put it there) with a stick, as you need several adults just to keep the excited kids from crowding in so close they get hit on the backswing. The kids actually ate the cake this year, instead of just licking off the frosting and leaving everything else.

I am tired.

Forks? We don't need no steenkin' forks!

Ah, but did they use forks, their hands, or just their mouths (basically leaning over and planting their faces) to eat the cake? We've had all three at various points at our house, as well as the infamous "frosting lick". :)

My boys' birthdays are a month apart, one in July and one in August. Summers became a drawn out period of angst for me as I could combine the "adult" party for them--but not the parties with their friends. They wanted their "own" parties (this was school-age time) and so I spent June dreading/planning the July party, then had another to contend with the following month. The result was that my July-born son did wind up with the more involved parties, while my poor August-born son wound up with small group affairs. Didn't help that he simply wasn't as popular as his brother either, another issue altogether.

Best kid parties are the ones where you hold them outside of your house, like a bowling alley, park, whatever. Parents drop off and pick up the kids--after 90 minutes at the very maximum. I still remember how slow time crawls when in the company of multiple wee ones.
