Oh my heavens, if that isn't the best reward for the incredibly hard work of being a mama, just to hear those words "I love you" from your child. You *know* it's true, but to hear it out loud or see it in writing gives you the stamina to run another 500 loads of laundry or prepare another 1,000 (generally unappreciated) meals.
Katherine said "I love you Mama" out of the blue when I was roughhousing with her yesterday and I thought my heart would stop. And when I was cuddled in bed with her after tuck-in time last night, for what I call "the adoration of the child," she snuggled up to me and called me her "little buddy" and I melted into her and kissed her and sang her songs to her for an extra half hour. How I love my little girl!
My goddaughter (she's three) came up to me and hugged me and said "I love you my Uncle John." That was a warm fuzzy feeling that lasted the rest of the day.
