I know some of you folks are in Washington State, or have lived there in the past.

Are you going to sign the petition to put this initiative on the ballot? Or would you if you were still living there? (Work-safe.)

Yeah, I appreciate irony as much as the next girl, but I don't even want to go there with this one. It's a little too Jonathan Swift for me -- the people who recognize it as irony already get it; the people who don't get it aren't going to be influenced by the absurdity of it.

Seriously? Is this for real? I live in WA and have a hard time believing they think they could get enough signatures.

Never mind. I finished reading it. I don't think I could sign it, even for the purpose of weakening Andersen.

I'd sign.

I would be a little too nervous about it passing and *not* being struck down to sign, but it is an interesting tactic.

Yeah, that.

It's a sign of the times, I think (or of prevailing Canadian views of American social politics), that I was halfway through the list before I realized that it was intended to be absurd...

I just want the opportunity to pass judgement on everybody else's marriages. I feel all left out.

The only judgement I have ever made about your parenting is that you must be a damn fine one because you have such marvelous children.

Oh me too, me too!

Of course!

I would have to sign this.

You know, at some point queer folk are going to have to do some extreme things to get straight people in America to give up their exclusive privileges. This is just the tip of the fricking iceberg. Black people had to have a Malcolm X in order to make MLK Jr and his ideas seem reasonable. GLBT people have been all about being discreet and good and kind and patient for a long time. Eventually some queer kid is going to step out and blow the lid off all that and gain a following.

"By any means necessary" indeed.

Oh my, and it's retroactive. So on your third anniversary you are retroactively not married...and you have to pay back any benefits you've received due to having presented yourself as married. !!!
