Kiera's current vocabulary:

Uh-oh.
Wow! (This is how she says "Meow.")
Oof. (This is how she says "Woof.")
Mama.
Na-na. (This is our word for nursing; she also uses it for foods she wants.)
Abi. (My sister's name.)
Buh. (This seems to mean "ball" and "bottle" and "hey, I want that!")

She also points with her index finger when she wants something, and will hold up her arms and make grabbing gestures with her hands when she wants to be picked up. (I had a day care teacher friend call this the Universal Uppie Sign.) I've also heard her say something that sounds like "kitty" while trying to touch the cats; I heard her say something that sounded like "Woggo" tonight (one of our variant nicknames for Molly), and Molly insists that Kiera asked "whatcha doing" WEEKS ago even though no one else heard her say this.

One newish trick: if she wants to reach something inaccessible and there's a chair not to far away, she will shove the chair to where she needs it. I swear Molly didn't figure out she could do this until she was three.

Has she actually said "Abi" other than that one time that I was there? She didn't say it when I was at mom and dad's when they were babysitting on Monday night.

The true cuteness of uh-oh is perhaps not clear in Naomi's post. Kiera has used it in context for quite some time to indicate that she's dropped something. Sometimes she uses it like we would after dropping something by accident, but other times she'll do things like sit at the table, pick up a Cheerio, carefully drop it on the floor, and say "uh-oh" -- and keep doing this until she runs out of Cheerios. Frustrating, but incredibly cute. -The proud daddy

I'm constantly amazed at what Tommy can understand. He's not a big talker, and doesn't say much without prompting. But he can do mama, dada, cup, shees (cheese), nana (banana, not Sheila's mother "Nana"), and shoe. Kitty is likely next. I'm testing him with verbal commands to see how much he understands (such as "go get your soap" or "give daddy the nuk"). On a lark, I said "no biting" when he wasn't biting, and he turned around and bit me. Extremely cute, but we are really trying to discourage this behavior.
