Molly has been trying to learn to ride a two-wheeler all summer. Today, Ed took her out to one of the local parks (along with a friend of hers and the friend's mom) to practice.
I was inside with Kiera when I heard a really loud bang on the door. Came downstairs and no one was there. Stepped outside to look around....just in time to see Molly shoot by, unassisted, yelling, "look at me, Mom! Look at me!"
Whoo hoo!

Date: 2007-09-06 01:36 am (UTC)It seems like just yesterday that my daughter took her first unassisted bike ride without training wheels... but 'twas longer ago than that.
And yesterday she returned from a two and a half week cross-country road trip that took her from Rhode Island, westward, passing through your neck-of-the-woods (where she and her boyfriend and another friend spent a couple of nights with some people they "knew" via online games) and then out to Oregon (staying with more Internet friends and then camping for a couple of days and then going up to the Seatle area (where her boyfriend is originally from) and then a non-stop drive (except for gas & food) all the way from Washington to Rhode Island.
She's not a little kid -- heck, she's twenty-five and she went on a road trip to Minneapolis to visit a different set of Internet friends three years ago -- but as a parent I still felt a big sense of relief when she pulled into our driveway yesterday.
Yeah, and you were probably younger than 25 when you were wandering about in Nepal... but I bet your parents were relieved when you returned from your world travels.
