When Molly was three years old, she dressed up as "a princess in a green dress" for Halloween. (My mother found her an Ariel costume.) On November 2nd, she informed me that for Halloween next year, she was going to dress as a Christmas tree.

Since by the end of December she was still saying that she wanted to dress as a Christmas tree, I picked up some packages of battery-powered wreath lights.

And I was awfully glad I did as on October 31st of the following October, she went out trick-or-treating decked out in lights and ornaments, with a big silver star on a hat on her head.

Kiera was saying in September that she wanted to dress as Belle (from the Disney Beauty and the Beast). So I bought her a Belle costume and gave it to her for her birthday. You'll note that I made it a birthday present; this is in part because I remembered that the Cinderella costume last year did not get worn for any actual Halloween activities.

Sure enough, on Costume Day at her preschool she informed me that she was NOT wearing her Belle costume to preschool. (She wore her Cinderella dress, in fact.) Tonight, we're going to a potluck/Halloween thing, and Kiera decided that instead of dressing as a princess, she would dress as a superhero and put on her red satin cape with a big K on it (the party favor from a superhero-themed birthday party she attended a few weeks ago) and then added wings and a tiara because she wanted to be a superfairy and then shed the tiara because it hurt her head and the wings because she'd changed her mind and just wanted to be a superhero. Of course, we aren't out the door yet, so who even knows?

Molly is dressing as Nancy Drew this year and she looks awesome. She totally does look like a very small, brunette Nancy Drew.

Meg goes through the year choosing different costumes for Halloween based on her interests at the time. Among other things, she has wanted to be a starfish, a whale shark, Wonder Woman, a cat, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, and a purple people eater. (Last year, she was a red dragon.)

As with last year, I told her she had to make a decision at the beginning of October so I'd have time to make the costume! This year she is, for the first time, flirting with the scary bits of Halloween, so she decided to be "a friendly ghost named Woo who is NOT a dead person."

I like SuperFairy (or not) Kiera. And Nancy Drew! That sounds adorable!
