Is something in retrograde?

naomikritzerI have been plagued lately with broken appliances. First the handle on my dishwasher broke. I drove up to the appliance parts store to buy a new one, then misplaced it. Then one of the wheels for the upper rack broke, and I had to drive up to the appliance parts store again, which I did last Friday. I was going to fix it over the weekend, except that on Saturday, the dishwasher started leaking. Ed was able to clean out the seal and get it to quit leaking on Sunday, so on Sunday night I replaced the rack (I still can't find the handle) and I have a functional dishwasher again, at least for now. (A fully functioning handle is nice, but optional -- the dishwasher works OK with a semi-functional one.)
Today, I noticed that our upright freezer is leaking.
That, at least, is in the basement, so the leak dribbles down to the floor drain. Also, the freezer is still under warranty; we just bought it a few months ago. But did I really want to add "call Sears, schedule repair, wait for service guy" to my to-do list in December? No. I did not. It also makes me wonder ominously what the heck is going to break next, and if it's going to decide to do it on Christmas Eve, like our hot water heater did one year.
ETA: The leak may not actually be from the freezer -- it may be from the hose that leads from our dehumidifier to the floor drain. Ironically, I think this would be a more expensive fix (we'd have to buy a replacement hose, and I think a service call on the freezer at this point would be fully covered) but much less of a hassle since it'll just mean that we need to pick up a piece of hose at the hardware store, then screw it on to the attachment.

Date: 2007-12-03 11:42 pm (UTC)My roommate has a chance of sharing a similar curse, but with his car. A few weeks ago, he discovered that he needed a new alternator. This weekend, he went to get snow tires and change the oil when he discovered that he needed a new oil pan.
The fact that I carpool with this guy makes me worry a bit about what might happen in the next couple weeks...
