I got my copyedited manuscript late last week; they want it back by this Friday. Presumably due to publishing schedules, I nearly always seem to have some urgent publishing-related task land in my lap in mid-December with a note saying "please have this back to us within a week." Anyway, I spent some time over the weekend working on it, but kept getting distracted, so last night I went out to a coffee house (the Blue Moon, which sells these lovely dairy-free raspberry brownie things) and spent about three concentrated hours, and finished going through the notes. I made a couple of notes to myself regarding things I wanted to think over or check again, and tonight I finished those off. (As an example -- I wanted to use a metaphore involving a dropped, shattered mirror, but wasn't sure if that would be a horrible anachronism. Thanks to Google and a site about the history of mirrors, I now know that glass mirrors didn't come along until something like the 16th century, so! It's going to be a metaphore involving a dropped clay pot, instead. I really don't know how I ever got by without Google.)

Of course, this time of year I always feel like I'm getting nothing done, but I actually got a fair amount done today. I worked out this morning and actually RAN for thirty minutes, going nearly three miles. (I was at 2.98 miles when the treadmill shut off.) Since a few months ago I had never run even ONE mile, and felt like that was a nearly impossible goal for me, I'm pretty pleased with myself. Also rather sore.

I picked Molly up from preschool and let the girls play on the playground for a while. Came home, got Molly some more lunch, napped Kiera (she has taken to napping in my lap again; I really hope we can break this trend soon). Then Molly and I wrapped a big pile of gifts. One of the reasons that I always feel so unproductive in December is that wrapping gifts is amazingly time consuming yet I tend not to consider it much of an accomplishment, since each individual gift is done so quickly. I let Molly wrap the gifts from her, and she did a pretty good job, actually.

Still to do:

* Fed Ex manuscript back to Bantam
* Mail box of stuff to Boston

I can't even begin to tell you how appealing the thought of a December post office trip with two kids in tow is.
