When I was a kid, my father used to make this dessert called Hot Fudge Pudding Cake. I actually know a couple of other people who ate this as kids, and in every case it was a dessert made by their father. (My father is actually an excellent cook, but he didn't do much baking, other than this particular item.) Apparently some of them got the recipe off the back of a bag of sugar. I'm not sure where my Dad got it. It's a very easy recipe, and can easily be done dairy-free by substituting soy milk for the regular milk. I haven't made it very often, because Ed prefers not to have tempting desserts around on any sort of regular basis. Also, it bakes for a long time, and should be served hot, so it requires timing. Not precision timing, but still.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] pegkerr posted a link the other day to her recipe for Chocolate Microwave Cake. It turns out that this is basically a single-portion ready-in-ten-minutes version of Hot Fudge Pudding Cake.

I've now had a midnight snack of Chocolate Microwave Cake for two days in a row. I'd say that discovering this recipe was a bad, bad thing, except that it's actually not a whole lot more caloric than my usual late-night snack. (Two English muffins, one with jam, one with margarine. I spread the toppings generously.) Not that I'm worried about my weight right now (nursing, for me, is Mother Nature's Miracle Weight Loss Program) but, well.

*Laughs hysterically* Yeah. That recipe is teh EVIL. And probably has been a small but significant cause of my ongoing battle with my own weight.

But it's sooooooo good that it's worth it!

I actually do cut the sugar a bit, too, which helps somewhat with the guilt.
