My Convergence Schedule
Jun. 27th, 2013 09:05 amFriday, July 5
Successful and Unsuccessful Alternative History - 11:00am, Sofitel Bordeaux
Creating alternative history fiction that is convincing and interesting instead of just provacative. It's easy to have the south win the civil war. Once they do, what happens? Panelists: Will Shetterly, Eleanor Arnason, Paul Weimer, Naomi Kritzer, Bob Alberti
Sherlock Holmes: Hotter Than Ever - 5:00pm, Bloomington
Although his first adventure was published over 125 years ago, Sherlock Holmes is more popular than ever. What is it about this most English of detectives that keeps us coming back for more? We'll discuss the books, recent movies, and BOTH shows. Panelists: Mary Loving, Elizabeth Bear, Rae Lundquist, Naomi Kritzer, Jo Thomsen
Creating a Monster: How to Write Villains - 7:00pm, Atrium 4
What are some good ways to add depth to your villan characters? What stereotypes should or shouldn't you use? Panelists: Sean M. Murphy, Joel Arnold, Naomi Kritzer, Eleanor Arnason, Will Shetterly
Saturday, July 6
E-Readers: Better Than Paper or Not? - 11:00am, Atrium 4
What are the merits of the medium - or each individual gadget? Discuss the differences between Nook, Kindle, and others. Will printed books ever die? Panelists: Adam Whitlatch, Haddayr Copley-Woods, W. A. Thomasson, Emma Bull, Naomi Kritzer
I am pretty sure they haven't done programming in the Sofitel before; I'm going to have to remember to leave myself extra time before that one because I have NO IDEA WHERE ANYTHING IS IN THAT HOTEL.
If you're looking for me at Convergence outside of Programming....I'll undoubtedly be in and out of the consuite gaming area because I take Molly to Convergence, and Molly is ALL ABOUT THE GAMING. Also, I usually do the Steam Century Mystery game (also with Molly) and you'll be able to find me hunting for people with red ribbons to ask them leading questions. (Hey, I should totally pitch the Steam Century Mystery to the Sherlock Holmes fans at that Friday panel! The LARP starts at noon on Saturday. So they'll have plenty of time to get there!)
