New short story: Bits
Oct. 2nd, 2013 09:40 pmSo back in August, Mary Anne Mohanraj posted to Facebook a link to the Strange Horizons list of stories they've seen too often. "We know it's tempting to look at this list as a challenge," Strange Horizons notes. "Please don't. In particular, please don't send us stories that intentionally incorporate one or more of these items."
I commented that the problem with lists like this is that it's really hard not to read them as a challenge. Someone suggested adding "in SPACE!" to the ideas, or "in bed," and as we bantered back in forth I came up with, "tech support is called for a zero-gee magical VIBRATOR."
So yeah. It's actually more a call to customer service than a call to tech support (#10: Someone calls technical support; wacky hijinx ensue.) But it's totally a story about science fictional sex toys. (There's no explicit sex; it's not erotica. There is, however, explicit description of alien penises, complete with a tape measure.)
Bits is in the October issue of Clarkesworld.
