How on earth did I ever survive for 32 years without a hot glue gun?
I bought one today so that I could glue fabric to the cardboard star I constructed to put on top of our Christmas tree. (Molly likes to make Christmas ornaments, and wanted a star this year instead of an angel.) I never bought one before because I have always hated gluing, because the glue goes all sorts of places I didn't put it, and makes my hands sticky, and doesn't hold well. Also, "hot glue gun" just sounded dangerous. However, I knew (from my crafty-mother-person reading) that hot glue guns were what you were supposed to use to do what I was trying to do. So, since I couldn't find contact paper, I bought a glue gun and a bag of glue sticks. The glue from a glue gun doesn't go places I didn't put it, is easy to pick off my scorched fingers as it dries in seconds, and holds amazingly well.
The cardboard star is now covered in shiny gold nylon fabric. Tomorrow I will let Molly break out the fabric paint, and when Kiera naps I might get out the glue gun and let Molly glue beads and sequins and other sparkly things to our star. This could really get addictive.
