The carpet is in rolls (duct taped, not tied like the Solid Waste website says, but it's much easier to duct tape as you go; if they won't take them this way, we can peel it off and tie them properly later), leaned against the wall and the corner of my desk. All tack strips are out. The bulk of the carpet staples have been removed, though I expect I'll find more, probably by stepping on them.
It is disconcerting how easily my chair rolls now.
I am fighting the urge to go get the broom and mop and start cleaning.
Happy New Year!
(Oh, and lest you think I've spent my entire New Year's Eve doing home improvements -- we all went to a party after dinner, had a very nice time, and came home when the girls got tired around ten.)

Date: 2006-01-01 07:56 pm (UTC)Right now my husband is in the process of painting the baby's room. There are hardwood floors in the bedrooms, but he's going to end up sanding the floor down and re-finishing it. When it was originally painted white, they didn't use a drop cloth, so there are paint spatters all over.
I just can't wait til we get to the point where we can pull the carpeting out of our dining room. The house is 85 years old, and had great floors and stuff. I think the owner just carpeted the dining room to make his life easier. It's too hard to keep carpeting clean in there, esp. with multiple children!
Oh, I've started eliminating milk from my diet. We figure the baby will be here in a couple weeks, so I want to be used to the modified diet before he shows up. I've actually been feeling slightly ill any time I drink milk lately anyways.

Date: 2006-01-02 03:45 am (UTC)It looks pretty good.
And I shudder at the thought of a carpeted dining room with kids. We had a rug in there for a while when we were childless. We have long since moved it out.
