We saw Ice Age earlier this week, courtesy of a friend who loaned us the DVD.

It was very funny.

But, I have to say. I wasn't bothered by the concept of a sloth, a mammoth, and a saber-toothed tiger joining together in a quest to return a lost human baby to his father. I wasn't bothered by the characters wandering past Old Faithful, Stonehenge, and the painted caves from France. I wasn't even bothered by the fact that the stone-age baby was wearing a diaper.

But the stone age humans leashing their dogs had me yelling and throwing popcorn at the screen.

heh. I had a problem with the fact that mom died, and no one seemed to care.

Hmm. I can see that, though it didn't exactly bother me. The thing that peeved me was the Disney thing -- the self-sacrificing was-a-bad-guy-but-learned good guy having a great death scene -- then limping up at the end. That resulted in a facepalm and several muttered words

It's almost as bad, of course, to have him actually die. Anyone in film who changes sides {but isn't a protag's love interest} is pretty much guaranteed to have to go through the self-sacrifice scene, one way or another, just so %he can be absolved of all prior malice and/or all need to face an actual judicial hearing.

ROFL...my kids (especially my 4 yo dd, who wants it every time she is sick) have watched this numerous times but I've never watched more than bits & snatches. Either I'm cooking or reading or on the computer while they're watching.

My kids are watching "Stranger in the Woods" from the library right now, and really really enjoying it. We have the book, which I also recommend. Nice winter scenes that make you actually want snow.
