After dinner this evening, Kiera announced she was "Shasha" (Sasha, as in the ice skater) and ran into the living room to pretend to jump, spin, skate, and....fall down rather dramatically. "Shasha is falling! Shasha fell down!"

Molly, meanwhile, declared herself to be Emily Hughes.

I actually took them skating one day last week (there's a park near us with a rink and loaner skates) and Kiera hated it.

hah! That's hilarious! I know a very snarky group of skating fans who worship her skating, but also call her "Splatasha", because of her habit of splatting on the ice whenever the pressure is on. I think it's hilarious that Kiera has picked up on the splatting aspect of Sasha's skating.

Can I be Elene Gedevanishvili (the tiny little fireball from Georgia)? I wanna play skating, too!

Ah, darn. I wanted to be Irina. She looks much less hostile out on the ice. ;-) But maybe I can be Apolo Anton Ohno instead, and charm you with my cute and ever-so-slightly rebellious look.

Hmm... I'll have to try sauteing something in vodka at some point...

The only way I will eat liver is chicken liver sauteed in vodka. Or vermouth.

Hahaha! Sounds like fun!

The scary thing is that when I was a little kid, I wrote a book about a girl named Sasha. I'm pretty sure one of the things she does on the book is skates. (It was completely with illustrations and a wrapping paper and cardboard cover.) I should ask my mom to dig up other things I wrote as a kid, to see if anything else has come true. (One of the other stories I wrote was about a boy named "Lucifer". I thought it was a cool sounding name, and had no idea it was a name for the devil. heh.)

Even in kids' minds, Kimmie Meissner is just off the radar. x.X

Kimmie has an edge, and she hasn't learned how to hide it. The camera flashed to her during the short program, which she led for a time--she was not happy when Sasha and Irina caught up to her, and it really showed.

And I hate to say it, but the presence isn't there. Maybe it will be there in Vancouver. Right now, she's just a tiny girl flitting around the ice. No star quality.

Yeah. True. Neither her nor Emily Hughes are star power atm -- but they, like Elene, are the *future* of the sport (both of them debutted on the international scene at the Olympics). Kimmie seems to have the ah? base talent? that she needs to go far in the sport; she seems like she can do all of the moves, a junior Arakwa ma? The choreography and better presentation will come with time.

don't forget!

What a great set of role models for your daughters! Remember, it's NEVER too early to get working on those eating disorders!
